Why is Crown Signia so heavy?

I rented a RAV4 back in 2018 (Limited Trim) for a week and drove it about 600 miles, as we were considering buying one. Despite what you've read, the Signia Limited is nothing like the RAV4, other than a similar size. The difference on MPG is only 1 currently, comparing Limited trim levels.

I'd say your going to have to drive one to experience the extra weight. Laminated glass, much higher quality interiors, extra towing capacity, and extra insulation are just a few things I can think of that add to the weight.

No I'm not a Toyota Engineer.

I seriously doubt your going to find a Toyota engineer hanging out on this forum, but it certainly doesn't hurt to ask.

I’m just interested in why (and where) Toyota added 500 lbs to the same TNGA chassis for the Signia. That’s a 13+ % increase in weight, which is significant. I know the ride and comfort will be similar to my Avalon Limited so I know the Signia will be satisfying.

We've got a 2025 Signia Limited on the way to the dealer right now. Expected to be delivered to us in the next 2 weeks. We also own a 2019 Avalon Limited V6, which is getting traded in on the Signia. The Signia is definitely quieter than the Avalon, especially at freeway speeds.

We've done three different test drives of the Signia, with three different vehicles, two were Limited's and one was an XLE. All three were driven for about 30 minutes over the same route, including city speeds and highway speeds up to 75 MPH.

Of course you can hear some wind noise in both, but that's to be expected at 75 MPH. Even my home allows some wind noise in at 75 MPH.

In my opinion, any freeway speed wind noise seems to come from the area around the exterior driver's side rear view mirror, in both vehicles. It does not detract from the relaxed, quiet driving experience in any way, in my opinion.

Hi, as the owner of a 2019 Avalon limited (as we are), can you comment on the relative ride quality, cabin noise level, and possible wind noise of the Signia. My wife has been in love with her Avalon and I don’t want to take a step back in drive comfort in trading to a Signia Limited. Thanks for your impressions
